Aulander Is Just
16 Miles Away
From The Impressive Chowan River
Surrounding Bertie
County was formed as "Bertie Precinct" in 1722.
It was named for James Bertie, his brother Henry
Bertie, or both, since each had been among the
Lords Proprietors of Carolina. Over the middle
of the 18th century, the boundaries of Bertie
County were revised three times, until the
county reached its present dimensions in 1759.
The town of Aulander was actually named after
the city of Orlando, Florida, albeit with an
extremely different spelling. |
Average
high temperatures in Aulander get up to
89 degrees Fahrenheit in July, and the
average lows reach down to 29 degrees in
January. The average monthly
precipitation is 3.57 inches. Annual
snowfall averages just 8.5 inches.
Aulander Elementary School offers
education to students from pre-school up
through the fifth grade. After that,
Bertie Middle School and Bertie High
School provide education to students up
through the end of high school. Both are
